Mother tongue first
Every explanation — why a word changes form, how a sentence is built, what a phrase really means — happens in the language you already speak, not the one you're learning. That includes English: if English is the language that's easiest for you to learn through, that's how Dubashi Learn teaches you. Some pairs teach a language other than English through English; others teach through Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and more, depending on what's live for your language.
Reading it before you can read it
Every line in the language you're learning is written three ways: in its own script, in a plain roman spelling, and in the sounds of your own script — so a Telugu speaker learning Tamil, for example, can read a Tamil sentence aloud in Telugu letters before ever learning to read Tamil itself. On top of all three, every line is voiced, so you always hear how it's actually said, not just how it's spelled.
Three ways to practise
Lessons with Sara, your coach, are short and structured: a bridge note explaining a new pattern, a natural dialogue, and substitution drills you speak out loud. Shadow is a quick listen-and-repeat drill for pronunciation — hear a line, say it back, move on. Roleplay is free conversation with Sara playing a real situation, either one built into a lesson or one you describe yourself; nothing is scripted or graded.
When you get stuck
Mid-conversation, you can switch to your own language at any point and Sara reads what you meant. You can also tap Help for a Dialogue Prompt — the exact line to say next, with its own audio, so you hear it as well as read it. Anything you're handed this way is saved as a review card, and every roleplay conversation you've had is saved too, so you can look back at it later.
Foundations and the course
Course One is ten missions of lessons, building up spoken patterns one at a time. Alongside it, a separate Foundations library covers how your own language maps onto the one you're learning — the bridges, not the drills.
How it's made
Course and Foundations content is drafted, then checked by native speakers of the language being taught before it's published.
Who it's for
Adults who want to actually speak — not a game. No streaks, no points, no hearts.
